While he Kenyan Government policy seeks to subsidise education, the effects of this policy are yet to reach those who need it most, the low income communities, especially senior secondary level. For example, in TULIP’s experience, these are the costs we are incurring after government subsidy:
> Tuition fees – up to Ksh 53,000 annually Uniforms – Ksh 15,000
> Boarding items – Ksh 15,000 Stationary – Ksh 5,000
> Mandatory text books – Ksh 5,000
>Personal effects shopping – Ksh 15,000
With our target families earning less than $2 a day, they are no where close to keeping their children in quality achieving schools without our support!
