Economic Empowerment
At Tulip, we believe that true and lasting change begins with the transformation of women and girls. In the heart of Nairobi’s informal settlements, where poverty, inequality, and broken systems have silenced the potential of many, Tulip is standing in the gap empowering women, educating girls, and restoring dignity to families and communities.
Empowering Women Through Skills and Opportunity
For many women in informal settlements, life is a daily struggle. With little to no formal education, limited job opportunities, and the weight of raising children in poverty, hope can feel like a distant dream. At Tulip, we believe that empowering a woman is empowering an entire community. When a woman is equipped with the tools to earn a living, everything changes, her children are fed, her home becomes stable, and her confidence begins to rise.
That’s why we offer hands-on life skills training designed to be practical, easy to learn, and income-generating. Women are trained in:
- >> Tailoring and dressmaking
- >> Baking and pastry-making
- >> Artwork and handicrafts
- >> Hair dressing among others.
These are more than just hobbies, they are skills that women can quickly turn into businesses. We have seen women begin with nothing, and within months, start making and selling products that bring in income. Whether it’s baking cakes for community events or tailoring school uniforms, these skills provide immediate financial relief and long-term potential.
We teach essential business principles marketing, budgeting, customer service, and record keeping,
Entrepreneurship and Financial Literacy
Beyond skills training, Tulip offers entrepreneurship classes that equip women with the knowledge they need to start and manage small businesses. We teach essential business principles marketing, budgeting, customer service, and record keeping, so that every woman can confidently take control of her economic future.
Additionally, we run a savings and investment program where women learn how to manage their money wisely. In a community where saving is often seen as a luxury, we are cultivating a mindset of financial discipline and long-term planning. Women are learning to save regularly, invest in their businesses, and plan for emergencies. This gives them the power to withstand financial setbacks and make more strategic decisions for their families.
Anchored in Faith: Discipleship for Women.
We believe that true empowerment goes beyond economic change, it must reach the heart and soul. That’s why we offer regular discipleship sessions for women, helping them grow spiritually and find their identity in Christ. Through Bible study, prayer, and mentorship, women are finding healing from trauma, strength in community, and hope for the future.
When a woman is anchored in faith, her transformation is not just outward but inward. She learns to lead with grace, forgive with courage, and build her home on a foundation that lasts.
